A well rounded woman

Published by susanh at 7:53 am under Musings Edit This

How many times during your school years did you hear that it was important to be a “well-rounded” person? I remember hearing that phrase from my teachers time and time again as a means to encourage us to branch out from what was comfortable for us and to learn new things.

As a result of my parents encouraging the same from me, I did just that. As an adult, I enjoy several different types of music because they played several different styles in our home. I love country, classical, contemporary Christian, gospel, old-time rock and roll, and much more. Music touches my soul through and through and can affect my emotions quicker than words.

In high school, I played the clarinet in both the marching band and the wind ensemble. I sang in the choir, was on the speech team, and a basketball statistician (did I get that spelling correct?). My friends were as varied as my activities, so that made life even more interesting.

My point of all this is that as I find out more and more about Governor Sarah Palin simply as a person, I am more impressed. When I look at her aside from the politics and aside from the fact that she is running for Vice President of the United States, I see a woman who is well rounded, educated, fun, adventureous, courageous, confident, loving, and compassionate. She is comfortable in her own skin, if you will allow me the cliche.

Governor Sarah Palin has been successful as the governor of her home state, this is true. But she’s also been moose hunting, participated in a beauty pageant, played sports, and many other neat things. She is now a mom to not only two girls (lots of estrogen in that house!), but to a sweet special needs child who will demand of her and her husband much more than they probably realized. I believe she is up to the task.

Sarah Palin is an amazing lady. I wish people would stop trying to break her down and bring her down to their level just so they can feel comfortable being mediocre again. She is a woman I would be happy to have my children emulate. She does not waver on the issue of abortion when it is convenient for her. She loves LIFE. Sarah Palin chose life for her son, and she continues to stand for life for all unborn children. Sarah Palin stands for marriage between a man and a woman, just as the Lord God says in His Word. She could cater to the millions of American people who say that the marriage of two men and two women is acceptable, but she doesn’t. She STANDS for what she believes is right even when the wind is blowing against her from all sides.

Do I want my girls to “worship” her? Absolutely not. I pray they will only worship the Lord Jesus, their Lord and Saviour. However, when we look to others and see great character traits, those are the people we should desire to emulate. Governor Sarah Palin is a hard-working, compassionate, passionate, and courageous woman. I for one would love to be more like her in those ways!
